LADY IN (NOT SO MUCH) RED

Hey there cupids! We’re officially only a week out from Valentine’s Day.  If you’re anything like me and wearing red or pink (especially pink) for V Day isn’t exactly your cup of tea and you’re struggling to figure out what to wear, I’ve got you covered.

While red and pink have unofficially (but really officially) become the colors of Valentine’s Day, they definitely aren’t a requirement for your love day wardrobe. Besides Valentine’s Day is all about showing your heart to your SO and how much you love them. And if your heart is ice cold and black like mine, then why can’t you wear black? It just seems right, right? You gotta be true to you, and that’s what your SO was attracted to in the first place anyway.

Not only do I prefer wearing black, but the whole girly thing also isn’t my thing (I’ll pick combat boots over cute heels any day). So if you’re looking for something a little more edgy, I gotchu there too girl.

So, if any of the above applies to you, here are some suggestions on what to wear for Valentine’s Day:

All Black With Red Accessories

So if you are really into black, but want to try to incorporate a little bit of color into your look go with some red or pink accessories. Think shoes, belts, statement earrings, bracelets, headbands, purses, you name it. You can even do a red/pink jacket with a full black look underneath. And if all that is still too much of a commitment, put some red/pink into your beauty look instead. Go for a bright red or fuschia lip color, or simply paint your nails one of the hues.

For inspiration:

ASOS Glamorous Buckle Block Heeled Pumps in Bright Red, $45 | GAP Studded Skinny Belt, $24.99 | Sole Society Elie Satchel, $27.48 | Maybelline Color Sensational Made For All Lipstick, $5.99 | Baublebar Laniyah Tassel Statement Earrings, $44

Leather Or Patent Leather

Ugh, I’m a sucker for anything leather (faux is preferable).  It gives off just enough of edginess to give you that cool girl vibe. And if you already have some leather pieces in your wardrobe, no need to stop for this day. Suggested pieces: leather skirts, jackets, tall boots, and corsets over button-downs. Going along the same lines, you can also do patent leather/plastic/shiny pieces. And what I mean by this is patent leather boots and jackets & those liquid leggings/jeans (aka those jeans that have that shiny finish on them).

Some suggestions:

London Rebel Elastic Flat Over Knee Boot, $43 | Level 99 Janice Ultra Skinny Waxed Jeans, $39.97 | ASOS New Look Biker Jacket in Pu, $48 | Lulu's She's Irresistable Wine Red Vegan Leather Pencil Skirt, $38

Lingerie-Inspired Look

Layering something sheer with pretty undergarments has been a trend for a while now. And we all know that some of you are definitely buying lingerie to wear for your SO anyway, so why not wear it out to dinner too. The key is to make it subtle, not scandalous. Cute lace bralettes and bras underneath mesh tops is really what I’m talking about here. Corsets and corset belts layered over tops, sweaters, and dresses is also a good way to go in my book. Just remember, you want a hint of sexiness here, not to reveal everything at dinner. And if you’re going to a more dressy/conservative place for your meal, having a cardigan or jacket to wear over your look is highly suggested (if you’re going with a sheer top and bra/bralette look).

Pieces worth a look at:

Le Chateau Leather-Like Corset Belt, $19.99 | Madewell Mesh-Trimmed Michele Bralette, $32 | Maidenform Lightly Lined Convertible Bralette, $32

** I’d highly suggest Savage x Fenty for anyone looking for a lingerie piece. They have super cute styles in so many sizes, and they’re soooo comfortable. I’ve ordered some everyday bras from them, and I swear I almost don’t want to take them off at the end of the day (which is something I never thought I would say about a bra in my life).

Well, I hope those tips helped (everything I included is under $50), and if you need any further inspiration, keep scrolling below to see more pics of my own V Day look (but no I sadly will not be wearing this for the real V Day bc it is hella cold out there and I don’t need frost bite).

xoxo,

Lex

This black outfit with dark red lipstick is stunning and then on top of it, the other supporting accessories and jewels like handbag and earrings (in pink/red color) is cherry on the cake. I'm totally in love with your fashion sense. By the way, I did my Valentines' shopping online last night by using Valentines Day Coupons.
